I’ve heard a lot of incredible things about the new Black Panther movie. It’s been out in theaters in the US for over a week and it’s getting rave reviews. I decided I had to make Black Panther inspired sugar cookies to celebrate the success of the movie.
I started with homemade sugar cookies. If you’re looking to make homemade sugar cookies here’s a link to the recipe I posted on my blog.
I also made royal icing using two packages of Wilton’s royal icing mix. This mix is great because all you have to do is add water. The more water you add the thinner the icing gets. For this recipe you will need three different icing thicknesses for these cookies. I made a white icing that relatively thick a black icing with two different thicknesses (one for borders and another to fill in the cookie).
I made the two variations of black icing by adding black food coloring into the icing. Then I piped a border around the cookie and added in the thinner icing into the inside of the cookie. Once the icing was filled in I let the icing completely dry and then added some zig zags on the top of the cookie to finish it off.
The next part included making the Black Panther masks with the white icing. I piped the white icing onto parchment paper and let it sit overnight to allow it to dry completely. I then removed the dried icing from the parchment paper, added some fresh icing in the center of the mask and placed it on the cookie. If you want to be able to trace the mask outline please navigate to the following link to download and print the Black Panther Themed Mask Template.
I held the mask onto the cookie for a few seconds to ensure it was fully secure.
These Black Panther inspired sugar cookies are so much fun! I hope you’ll give them a try and enjoy them just as much as I did! If you’ve seen the Black Panther movie what’s your favorite part? Leave your note in the comments section below! 😉
